Christmas Community Worship

Posted by: revstevekelly on: December 6, 2009

It was lovely to see new and familiar faces this afternoon at Lawley Primary School. We concluded the Autumn series by thinking about JESUS THE SAVIOUR OF THE WORLD. We are celebrating twelve months in the school and the year draws to an end with a sense of encouragement about what has happened this year and a sense of excitement about what is ahead. We believe that the message of Christmas is as relevant today as it has ever been:-

Where there is brokenness, Jesus can give us a new start; He can put things back together; He can heal broken hearts and lives.

Where there is darkness, Jesus can bring light and hope.

Where there is emptiness, Jesus can bring a sense of purpose and direction.

Where there is selfishness, Jesus can turn lives around so that we live for him and offer something of ourselves to serve and help others.

This is all possible becuase Jesus has come as the SAVIOUR of the WORLD. May you know something of his love, His life and His power this Christmas time.

If you are interested in a regular (weekly or fortnightly) ¾ hour walk on and around Lightmoor Village, please complete this questionnaire and return it to Emma Phillips.

COMMUNITY WORSHIP is a cafe style church for Lawley and Lightmoor. We aim to provide opportunities to meet friends and neighbours from the community, to explore what it might mean to have Christian faith today and to learn together by looking at the bible and listening to each others experiences.

Come and join us on Sunday 6th DECEMBER. There will be something for the whole family between 4pm and 5pm but why not come along at 3.30 for coffee, cake and a Sunday paper. You can expect it to be fun, relaxed, relevant and thought-provoking. Click here for a flier with the details. For directions to Lawley Primary School, Arleston Lane, click here.

Summer plans

Lawley Primary School is closed over the summer so our regular Community Worship is also taking a break.

There are a number of community events in Lawley and Lightmoor during the summer and we are hoping to have something informal at our place towards the end of the holidays. We’ll keep you posted !!

In the meantime, if you are travelling or taking a holiday break in the coming month, we wish you safe travel and a good break. If you are staying local, do make the most of the chance to take a break, enjoy the countryside and spend time with friends and neighbours.

The Easter story is at the heart of Christianity

Posted by: revstevekelly on: April 10, 2009

crossOn Good Friday, Jesus was crucified and his body was taken down from the cross and buried in a cave. The tomb was guarded and an enormous stone was put over the entrance so that no-one could steal the body. On the following Sunday, some women visited the grave and found that the stone had been moved and that the tomb was empty. Then they saw Jesus alive and realised that something incredible had happened. Over the next few days, 100’s of people saw him and the news of his resurrection began to spread. The man we now call doubting Thomas refused to believe until he met Jesus face to face. Then he too realised that Jesus had been raised from the dead.

The miracle of Easter continues to inspire Christians. The cross is a reminder of the death of Jesus but we also remember that he rose again and is alive today. This resurrection power is still changing lives today! ress

We would like to wish everyone in Lawley and Lightmoor a happy and joyful Easter. We hope to see some of you at some of the local easter events.

Then Simon Peter, who was behind him, arrived and went into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, as well as the burial cloth that had been around Jesus’ head. The cloth was folded up by itself, separate from the linen. Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed.
